Preview: Create a message campaign from payments

The Payments module is not only a tracking tool: it's also a powerful starting point for communicating with your donors. At any time, you can send a bulk email or SMS to all donors in the filtered list. This page explains the procedure and provides concrete use cases.

Principle: the filtered list = the mailing list

The golden rule: the recipients are exactly the donors in the filtered list at the moment of clicking. No more, no less.

Procedure

  1. 1

Filter the list to target the right donors

Use the filters to reduce the list to your target population (for example: all donors of a specific campaign, or all payments of a given month). Check the number of payments displayed in the statistics.

  2. 2

Click on Create a message campaign

Button available at the top right of the list, in the global actions menu.

  3. 3

    Choose the channel

Email (free, rich format, attachments possible) or SMS (high impact, almost guaranteed reading, cost per send). See the Campaigns module for details.

  4. 4

    Write the message

Subject (email) + body of the message. You can use dynamic variables: {{prenom}}, {{nom}}, {{montant}}, {{date_paiement}}.

  5. 5

    Preview

Display of the final version for 2-3 recipients of the selection, to check the rendering.

  6. 6

    Send or schedule

Immediate send, or schedule for a specific day and time.

Available dynamic variables

The message content can include variables that are replaced by the donor's actual data at send time:

VariableReplaced by
{{prenom}}Donor's first name
{{nom}}Donor's last name
{{montant}}Amount of their last filtered payment
{{date_paiement}}Date of their last filtered payment
{{raison_paiement}}Reason type (campaign, donation pledge…)

Example: Hello {{prenom}}, thank you for your donation of {{montant}} € paid on {{date_paiement}}.

Five ready-to-use cases

1. Thank donors from a gala

Filter: Reason = Gala 2026 campaign + Date = evening of the gala Message: Hello {{prenom}}, thank you for your generous participation in this year's gala. Thanks to you, we raised X €…

2. Follow up with occasional donors from 6 months ago

Filter: Date = 6 months ago + From a subscription = No Message: Hello {{prenom}}, it's been a while since we've had the pleasure of counting you among our donors. Did you know our new campaign…

3. Inform large donors about a new project

Filter: Minimum amount = 500 € + Date = current year Message: Presentation of a strategic project reserved for major donors (invitation to a meeting, pre-sale, etc.)

4. End-of-fiscal-year reminder

Filter: Date = last 11 months (donors active this year) Message: Hello {{prenom}}, 3 weeks before the end of the year, this is the ideal moment to finalize a last donation deductible from your taxes…

5. Invite corporate donors to a patronage event

Filter: Billing type = Professional + Date = current year Message: Targeted patron invitation, reserved for legal entities

Practical rule: email for content, SMS for urgency.

Campaign tracking

After sending, the Campaigns module (admin route /app/campagne/list) lets you track:

  • Number of actual recipients (after deduplication by email/phone)
  • Number of emails opened (if tracking pixel enabled)
  • Number of clicks on links
  • Number of unsubscribes triggered
  • Number of bounces (invalid addresses)

Best practices

PracticeBenefit
Test on yourself before bulk sendingDetect a typo or broken link
Personalize at least with {{prenom}}Multiplies the engagement rate
Limit frequency (max 1-2 emails / month to the same people)Avoids fatigue and unsubscribes
Systematically include an unsubscribe linkGDPR obligation
Think carefully about send timingTuesday morning > Friday evening for emails
Keep the history of sent campaignsAvoids unintentional repetition

Limits and precautions

LimitDetail
No recurring schedulingA campaign is sent once β€” for recurrence, use the Campaigns module directly
One selection per campaignIf you want two different messages for two sub-populations, create two distinct campaigns
No personalization by segmentThe same message goes to everyone in the selection. To personalize by segment, split into multiple campaigns
