Data exploration
The Data exploration module is the free query tool of Unisoft. It lets you visually build custom views on your community's data (contacts, payments, pledges, subscriptions, form submissions, interactions, tax receipts), then save, share and export those views.
It's the tool to use when the standard lists of the other modules aren't enough — for example to prepare a very precise accounting file, segment a donor population for a follow-up, or simply answer a one-off question about your data.
What is a « view »?
A view (or exploration) is a saved query on a root entity. It consists of:
| Element | Role |
|---|---|
| Root entity | The type of data to explore (Contacts, Payments, Pledges…) |
| Columns | The fields shown in the table |
| Relations | The related data to include (payments of a contact, contact of a payment…) |
| Filters | The conditions to restrict the results |
| Sorts | The display order (multi-field possible) |
No code is needed: everything is built with the mouse in a visual editor.
What would you like to do?
The module's home page
Go to /app/explorer to open Exploration. The page displays the list of your saved views, organized into two tabs:
| Tab | Content |
|---|---|
| My views | The views you've created, whether private or shared with the organization |
| Shared with me | The views created by other administrators and shared read-only with the entire organization |
A New exploration button in the top right opens the building workshop.
Essential concepts to remember
Permissions
Each entity is protected by a specific read permission:
| Entity | Required permission |
|---|---|
| Contacts | contact.read |
| Payments | paiement.read |
| Pledges | promesse.read |
| Tax receipts | Tax receipts read permission |
| Other | read permission of the matching entity |
If you don't see an entity in the selector, your profile doesn't have the associated read permission. Ask an administrator of your organization to add it in Permissions.
