The Donation pledges module lets you capture a donor's intent to give before they actually pay. It is an essential tool for major campaigns, galas, occasion-based collections (Rosh Hashana, Passover, Kippur) or any event where your congregants commit to giving a future amount.

A pledge captures three key pieces of information:

• Who committed (the donor)
• How much they pledged
• For what occasion (gala, holiday, campaign, free-form reason)

Unisoft then automatically tracks the transformation of this pledge into actual payments, notifies you when it is fulfilled, and lets you follow up with donors who are slow to honor it.

Before you start: understanding a pledge

A donation pledge is a commitment made by a donor to give an amount. It is not a payment: it is the intent, captured in advance, that will be fulfilled by one or more later payments.

Concept	Short definition	Example
Pledge	Written or verbal commitment to give an amount	David Cohen pledges €1,800 for the annual gala
Payment	Actual receipt that fulfills (partially or fully) a pledge	David pays €150 per month for 12 months
Subscription	Automatic recurring mechanism that can cover a pledge	An automated monthly direct debit of €150 on David's card
Fund	Collective collection funded by several donors	"Hall renovation" — aggregated, not individual

A pledge can be covered by a subscription: in that case, the subscription generates N payments that fulfill the pledge progressively, automatically.

Lifecycle overview

A pledge goes through four statuses during its life:

Pending	Orange	Active, no payment received
In progress	Cyan	Active, partially fulfilled
Settled	Green	100% paid in full
Canceled	Red	Canceled by an administrator

Good to know

The Pledges module is closely linked to Payments, Contacts, Funds and Campaigns. Each payment assigned to a pledge automatically feeds the donor's tracking, updates the remaining balance, and triggers the issuance of a tax receipt if applicable.
