Preview: Manage multi-currency

Unisoft is used by communities in France (€), Israel (β‚ͺ), the United States ($), the United Kingdom (Β£) and elsewhere. The Budget module therefore handles multi-currency by design.

Principle: no automatic conversion

Unisoft never applies automatic conversion between currencies. This is an intentional choice to preserve accounting truth.

ConsequenceDetail
Each operation keeps its original currencyA donation of 100 $ remains a donation of 100 $
The balance is displayed in the booklet's main currencyNo mixing
The subtotals per currency are calculated without conversionYou see the reality
No exchange rate

If you need to know the € equivalent of a donation received in $, you must do the conversion yourself with the daily rate. Unisoft does not currently offer an integrated converter.

The main currency of a booklet

Each association has a main currency defined in its settings (€ for France, β‚ͺ for Israel, $ for the USA, etc.). All the booklets of this association inherit this main currency.

The "Amount detail" panel

When a booklet contains operations in several currencies, a panel appears in the body of the card:

Amount detail (without conversion)
Amount in € : +5,000.00 €
Amount in $ : +1,200.00 $
Amount in β‚ͺ : +800.00 β‚ͺ

This panel is not visible by default. You expand it by clicking on its title. It displays the subtotal per currency, calculated without conversion.

The "Balance detail" panel at the top of the page

The same mechanism exists at the top of the Budget page, for the global balance:

Total Balance : +12,750.00 €

Balance detail (without conversion)
Balance in € : +10,750.00 €
Balance in $ : +1,200.00 $
Balance in β‚ͺ : +800.00 β‚ͺ

Clicking on "Balance detail" opens this breakdown.

Concrete case: multi-country community

A French community has a branch in the United States and regularly receives donations in dollars from its American benefactors.

On its "Family assistance" booklet, after a typical year:

OriginCurrencySubtotal
Donations from French members€12,500 €
Donations from US benefactors$8,200 $
One-off donation from an Israeli visitorβ‚ͺ1,800 β‚ͺ

The "Amount detail" panel displays these three lines. The main balance displayed prominently on the card is 12,500 € (only the euro part, without conversion).

To get an overall view in €, you manually apply the daily rate:

  • 8,200 $ Γ— 0.92 β‰ˆ 7,544 €
  • 1,800 β‚ͺ Γ— 0.25 β‰ˆ 450 €
  • Equivalent total β‰ˆ 12,500 + 7,544 + 450 = 20,494 €

Best practices for multi-currency communities

  • Clearly define the main currency of each association during configuration
  • Keep a manual log of important conversions (date, rate, source) if you need to justify them
  • Account in a single currency when transmitting to your accountant: apply the conversions yourself
  • Prefer local currency donations when possible: fewer bank fees, simpler reading
