Pause a subscription
Pausing temporarily freezes the automatic direct debits of a subscription, without deleting it. It is the ideal option when a donor is going through a financial difficulty, leaves on an extended trip, or you want to stop direct debits while waiting for a discussion with them.
When to use a pause?β
| Situation | Pause or another action? |
|---|---|
| The donor is going through a temporary financial difficulty | Pause (to reactivate when they wish) |
| The donor leaves for 6 months abroad | Pause |
| The donor wants to stop permanently | Cancel |
| Their card just expired | Automatic pause by Unisoft β expired card management |
| You just refunded one of their direct debits | Pause automatically proposed by Unisoft |
| You just want to slow down the pace | Pause no β you have to cancel and recreate with a new amount |
Procedureβ
- 1
Open the Recurring payments screen
Finance menu β Recurring payments (
/app/paiements/recurrent). - 2
Locate the subscription
Stay on the In progress tab (default), then use contact search if needed (e.g. "Cohen").
- 3
Open the details
Click on the row or on the eye icon on the right. The side panel opens.
- 4
Click on βPauseβ
At the bottom of the panel, in the actions area. The button is only visible for In progress subscriptions.
- 5
Confirm
A confirmation window appears. Validate.
Immediate effectβ
As soon as confirmed:
- β The subscription's status moves to Paused (orange badge)
- β The subscription switches from the In progress tab to the Paused tab
- β The Unisoft nightly task will ignore this subscription and will no longer trigger any direct debit as long as it stays paused
- β The donor is not notified automatically (up to you to inform them if needed)
Automatic pause on refundβ
When you refund a payment from a subscription, Unisoft automatically offers to pause the subscription. Why?
To prevent a new direct debit happening right after the refund. Without a pause, the donor would receive a new direct debit a few weeks later, canceling out the refund's effect.
If you accept the proposal, the subscription is paused at the time of the refund. Up to you to reactivate it later, after agreeing with the donor.
Duration of a pauseβ
There is no limit to the duration of a pause. A subscription can stay paused for years if needed. As long as it is not explicitly reactivated or canceled, it stays as is.
And then?β
- To resume direct debits β Reactivate a subscription
- To stop permanently β Cancel a subscription
