Send a card update link
When a subscription is blocked (Expired card or Interrupted), Unisoft generates a personalized link that you can send to the donor. By clicking on this link, they access a secure form to enter their new card โ without having to recreate their subscription, without authentication.
Why a personalized link?โ
| Advantage | For the donor | For you |
|---|---|---|
| No authentication | No password to find | No support blocking to handle |
| No re-subscription | The existing subscription resumes, no need to redo everything | No duplicates in statistics |
| Secure entry | The form is served directly by Stripe or the platform | No sensitive data transits through Unisoft |
| Immediate resumption | As soon as the new card is entered, the subscription returns to In progress | No manual intervention afterwards |

Subject: Update your card for your monthly donation
Hello David,
Thank you warmly for your monthly donation of 50 โฌ to our community.
We noticed that your bank card has reached expiration. So that your support can continue uninterrupted, please enter your new details by clicking on the secure link below:
This operation takes less than a minute. No confidential information transits through Unisoft โ the entry is done directly on the secure form of our payment provider.
If you no longer wish to continue, you can simply ignore this message.
Best regards, The community team
What the donor seesโ
By clicking on the link, the donor arrives on a plain page:
- The context reminder: "You are updating your card for a monthly donation of 50 โฌ"
- A secure form (Stripe Elements or equivalent) to enter the new card
- A validation button
No login, no password, no captcha. The entry only takes a few seconds.
What happens after the updateโ
- โ The new card replaces the old one in the subscription record
- โ The status automatically moves from Expired card (or Interrupted) to In progress
- โ At the next nightly cycle, the direct debit resumes normally
- โ No catch-up of past months is attempted โ only the next monthly direct debit happens
Cases where the link does not workโ
| Situation | Consequence | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| The donor took too long and the subscription was canceled in between | The link returns an error | Recreate a new subscription |
| The donor enters a card that is also invalid | Error displayed by Stripe | Ask for another card |
| The donor closed the browser midway | The link remains valid, nothing is registered | Send them the same link again |
Multiple sends possibleโ
The link remains valid as long as the subscription is not canceled. You can send it several times if necessary โ for example, by email then by SMS two weeks later.
And for direct debit mandates (GoCardless)?โ
The update link is specific to bank cards. For a revoked or blocked direct debit mandate, the procedure is different:
- Cancel the current subscription
- Ask the donor to sign a new GoCardless mandate
- Create a new subscription with the new mandate
