Smart fund
A smart fund (smart mode) is a Fund without fixed goal: its target amount is automatically recalculated each month according to a recurring budget (rent, electricity, team salaries). Ideal for transforming a one-time appeal into a permanent financing mechanism.
The problem it solvesβ
A classic Fund targets a one-off project: renovate a hall, buy a Sefer Torah. Once the goal is reached, it's over.
But a synagogue also has recurring expenses: 3,500 β¬ of monthly rent, 800 β¬ of electricity, salaries of the rabbi and the choir. With a classic Fund, you would have to create a new one each month (and communicate it again, and reproduce the image and content, etc.). The smart mode automates this.
How the smart mode worksβ
- 1
In month 1, the goal is defined
You indicate for example: monthly goal = 5,000 β¬ (all fixed expenses combined).
- 2
The gauge fills up as it goes
The payments received feed the current month's gauge.
- 3
At the beginning of the next month, the gauge resets
The new monthly goal is applied (equal to the previous one, or adjusted if you have modified the Fund). The gauge starts again at zero (or at the value of the monthly margin if configured).
- 4
The Fund never moves to Β«CompletedΒ»
Unlike a classic Fund, a smart fund remains perpetually In progress. The "Completed" status is not applicable.
Enable the smart modeβ
The activation of the smart mode is not exposed in the form for creation/edit of a Fund in the current version of the backoffice.
- 1
Create the Fund normally
First create the Fund as a classic Fund with quantified goal: the smart mode only makes sense with a goal (which will be reinterpreted as a monthly goal). See Create a fund.
- 2
Contact Unisoft support for activation
Request the activation of the smart mode on the relevant Fund. Support toggles the corresponding technical field and the Fund immediately takes on the behavior described below.
- 3
Configure the public page normally
Everything else (image, video, buttons, content, multi-currency) works identically to a classic Fund. The possible margin is configured at the same place as for a standard Fund (Management options section of the creation form).
When to use a smart fundβ
| Use case | Why smart |
|---|---|
| Monthly rent of the synagogue | Recurring expense, stable amount month after month |
| Salaries of the permanent team | Regular commitment, continuous communication |
| Monthly maintenance costs (cleaning, garden) | Natural 30-day cycle |
| Monthly rabbinical support | A subscription presented as "contributing to the month's expenses" |
| Permanent fund without targeted project | Donor who wants to support without specific allocation |
When not to use a smart fundβ
| Case | Prefer |
|---|---|
| One-off project (hall renovation) | Classic fund with fixed goal |
| One-time purchase (Sefer Torah) | Classic fund |
| Annual gala | Classic fund or event journey |
| Targeted marketing campaign | Campaign + associated Fund |
Monthly margin vs classic cosmetic marginβ
Two concepts not to confuse:
| Margin type | Effect | When to use |
|---|---|---|
| Cosmetic margin (classic Fund) | Offsets the gauge only once at launch | Give a starting effect to a one-off project |
| Monthly margin (smart fund) | Adds the offset each month | Maintain a recurring starting effect |
Both are purely visual: no accounting entry, no impact on exports.
Differences with a classic fundβ
| Aspect | Classic | Smart |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | Fixed, defined at creation | Monthly, recurring |
| "Completed" status | Yes, when goal reached | Never |
| Gauge reset | None | On the 1st of each month |
| Lifecycle | Launch β reaching β archiving | Permanent (except manual pause/archiving) |
| Typical case | One-off project | Recurring expenses |
| Margin | Cosmetic single | Monthly |
Tax receipt in smart modeβ
The tax receipt behavior in smart fund follows the standard rules of the module: one receipt per payment received (if the Tax receipt option is enabled on the Fund). To date, there is no monthly aggregated recap specific to the smart mode.
To understand the rules for issuing and grouping tax receipts, see Tax receipts.
Concrete example: permanent fundβ
You want to create a donation page for the operating fund of the synagogue. Target expense: 3,000 β¬ / month (rent + small fees).
- 1
Create the Fund with goal
- Name:
Support the operating fund - Mode: With goal
- Goal:
3000(will be interpreted as monthly goal once smart mode is enabled) - Tax receipt: Enabled
- Booklet:
Operating Fund
- Name:
- 2
Request smart mode activation
Contact Unisoft support to enable the smart mode on this Fund. You can take the opportunity to request the implementation of a monthly margin (e.g., 15% so that the gauge starts at 450 β¬ on the 1st of the month).
- 3
Cared-for public page
- Image: interior photo of the prayer room
- Video: message from the rabbi on the importance of regular donations
- Buttons: 36 β¬, 100 β¬, 180 β¬ (with "per month" label)
- Content: transparent explanation of fixed expenses
- 4
Permanent distribution
Short link added in the email signature of all administrators, QR code displayed in the hall, iframe embedded on the "Support" page of the institutional site. You don't touch this Fund for the year: it lives on its own.
Link with the Budget moduleβ
A smart fund is very often attached to a dedicated budget Booklet, which allows:
- Seeing month by month the collected amount vs the committed budget
- Measuring the coverage rate of expenses by free donations
- Anticipating the deficit months (summer, holiday periods with little attendance)
See the Budget module for the implementation of a tracking Booklet.
To rememberβ
smartmode = recurring monthly goal, gauge reset each month- Activation currently manual via Unisoft support (toggle not yet exposed in the creation form)
- Ideal for recurring expenses (rent, salaries, operating)
- Never moves to "Completed" status
- The margin acts as monthly margin (cosmetic offset applied to each new month)
- Tax receipt: standard behavior (one receipt per payment), no monthly recap
- Often combined with a dedicated budget Booklet for tracking
- Compatible with Recurring payments for automatic donations
