Customize donation buttons
The donation buttons are the small clickable frames the donor sees on your page: they offer ready-to-choose amounts. Well configured, they guide towards the most useful tiers for your community while leaving the freedom to enter a custom amount.
What donation buttons are forβ
Without buttons, the donor must type an amount in an empty field. It's efficient for regulars, but much more intimidating for a new visitor. Buttons:
- Reduce friction: one click is enough to choose an amount.
- Suggest a norm: "β¬36 is the most common donation".
- Guide towards symbolic tiers: β¬18, β¬36, β¬180 (multiples of 18, value of "chai" in gematria).
What a button containsβ
Each donation button has two fields:
| Field | Role |
|---|---|
| Amount | The figure pre-filled when the donor clicks the button (required) |
| Text | A short label displayed above or next to the amount (optional) |
Procedureβ
- 1
Open the donation page configuration
Go to
/app/web/donand locate the Donation buttons section. - 2
Add a new button
Click Add a button. A window opens with two fields: amount and text.
- 3
Fill in the amount
Indicate the amount in figures, in the main currency of your organization. This is the amount that will be pre-filled when the donor clicks the button.
- 4
Fill in a short text (optional)
The text is displayed next to the amount. Stay short: "Donation", "Support", "Patron". Leave empty if you want to display only the figure.
- 5
Validate
The button is added to the list. You can reorder it by drag-and-drop.
- 6
Save the donation page
Once your buttons are added, click Save at the bottom of the configuration screen. The new buttons are immediately visible on the public page.
Configuration examplesβ
Minimalist configurationβ
| Text | Amount |
|---|---|
| (empty) | β¬18 |
| (empty) | β¬36 |
| (empty) | β¬180 |
Three clear buttons, just the figures. Simple and universal.
Configuration with labelsβ
| Text | Amount |
|---|---|
| Donation | β¬18 |
| Support | β¬36 |
| Support donation | β¬180 |
| Patron | β¬1,800 |
Labels add symbolic context to the amount. To use if all your donors understand the same terms.
Major donors configurationβ
For a page dedicated to major donors, you can configure named tiers:
| Text | Amount |
|---|---|
| Donor | β¬180 |
| Patron | β¬1,800 |
| Major patron | β¬5,400 |
| Builder | β¬18,000 |
These labels transform an act of donation into a mark of belonging. You can associate each tier with a symbolic reward (book, invitation, plaque) to mention in the editorial content of the page.
Best practicesβ
Don't overloadβ
3 to 6 buttons are enough. Beyond that, the donor is paralyzed by choice. If you have more tiers to offer, keep the essential.
Always leave a free amountβ
The free entry field always remains accessible. A donor who wants to give β¬50 should not be forced to choose between β¬36 and β¬180.
Test on mobileβ
The majority of online donations are made from a phone. Open your donation page on your mobile and check that the buttons remain readable and easy to touch.
Recurring donation: where is the frequency chosen?β
The donation page buttons only manage the amount. The choice between one-time donation and recurring donation (monthly) is made in the payment tunnel, after the donor has clicked Donate.
Once the donor has subscribed to a recurring donation from your page, you find them in Recurring payments. You can at any time view, pause or cancel a subscription from this screen.
