Calendar (Hazkarot and birthdays)

The Calendar block of the dashboard helps you never forget the personal events of your community's contacts: Hazkarot (death anniversaries, Yahrzeit) and birthdays. You can thus call a bereaved relative on the day of the Hazkara, or wish a happy birthday in Hebrew.

The Week view of the calendar shows the Hazkarot and birthdays of the next 7 days.

Two views: Day or Week​

A selector at the top of the block toggles between:

Two types of events​

Hazkarot (death anniversaries)​

A Hazkara is the annual anniversary of a loved one's death, in the Hebrew calendar. It's an important moment in Jewish tradition — the family may wish to say Kaddish, do a study in their memory, or light a candle.

For each Hazkara, the calendar displays:

  • The deceased's name
  • The dual date: Hebrew date + Gregorian equivalent (e.g. « 20 Nissan – 12 April »)
  • The deceased's age since their death (computed in Hebrew years)
  • The name of the linked contact (often a relative of the deceased, declared in their record)

Clicking the name opens the contact's record in the Contacts module.

Birthdays​

For each birthday, the calendar displays:

  • The contact's name
  • Their birthday date, in dual format: Hebrew date + Gregorian equivalent
  • The Hebrew age the contact is celebrating

Dual date format​

All dates in the Calendar block are shown in the form:

20 Nissan – 12 April
  • On the left: the Hebrew date (the « true » date of the event in tradition).
  • On the right: the Gregorian equivalent of this year (for practical landmark in your calendar).

This is useful because the event (Hazkara or birthday) is fixed in the Hebrew calendar — but the reminder must be placed in the civil calendar.

Clicking a name = opening the contact record​

A click on any name in the list takes you to the detailed record of the contact in the Contacts module. There you'll find:

  • Contact details (phone, email)
  • Donation history
  • Family ties (who to call in case of Hazkara)
  • Possible notes

How to feed this calendar​

The calendar fills automatically from the dates of death and dates of birth filled in on contact records.

    Open a contact record

    Contacts module, then click the contact's name (for example Sarah Lévy).

    Fill in the personal event dates

    Enter the date of birth to make birthdays appear, and the date of death (for the deceased themselves, or as a parent to honor) to generate a Hazkara.

    Check that the date appears in the right place

    Return to the dashboard and switch to the Week view to check that the date is indeed taken into account.

Special cases to know​

Death without a contact in Unisoft​

If you want to follow the Hazkara of a deceased who has never been a contact themselves (e.g. deceased parent of a living congregant), create a contact record for the deceased (with date of death filled in) and declare in it the family link to the living contact.

Birthday of a minor child​

The computed age works for all ages, from infants to centenarians.

Several Hazkarot on the same day​

The day's events are shown in a list, without limit. If your community is large, it's normal to have several names per day in Day view, and many in Week view.

Hebrew date conflict (added month day)​

For Hebrew dates in leap months (Adar I / Adar II), Unisoft applies the traditional rule (generally Adar II in a common year). This is in line with liturgical practice.
